STEVE ONO…
is a guitarist, singer/songwriter, arranger and producer with extensive Jazz, Folk, Rock, Blues and World music influences and experience. Steve has been playing solo shows and duos with violinist Patrick Contreras in “Appassionata” and with guitarist Tom Walzem in “Guitarstrophe”. His first CD, “Voice of a Friend”, his collaboration with the late Harmonica Master Eddie Gordon, “Smokin’”, his collaboration with Hans York “Music In Teak”, his collaboration with Patrick Contreras “Appassionata” and his latest solo effort “Fingerpaint and Folk Songs”are available at CDBaby. Steve Ono, solo guitarist, is available to play for private and public events, shows, background music gigs and recording sessions. He brings a small PA system.

A Simple Message Delivered from Six Strings

Steve is  a musician, teacher and producer. He sings and plays guitar and bass. He works as a solo artist, plus performs in a variety of duos and freelance engagements.  Steve reads music and also excels when he plays by ear. He can also transcribe, arrange and compose music. He is a teacher at the Fresno Music Academy and Arts. Steve loves to write and record his original songs and instrumentals as well as produce other artists for Fresno Folklore Records.

Musical Expertise

Guitarist Steve Ono has extensive knowledge of, and experience in, jazz, folk, rock, funk, blues, country and world music honed over a 40-year professional career. He is able to play all guitar-like instruments as well as being a singer/songwriter/composer, arranger/producer and guitar teacher.

Steve is able to compose or improvise original music in any style for any situation and/or mood on demand, copy almost any style of music by ear and transcribe it to create sheet music, read musical notation and chord symbols and change the key of the music to whatever is needed. He can record any of the above with the live instruments, samples and loops or he can recruit, contract and rehearse a group of musicians for a studio recording.

Recent Recording Projects

  • October 2014 arranged and produced tracks for ten original songs written by Astrid Plane, lead singer for Animotion. The quintet had four rehearsals with the artist and all ten tracks recorded “live to multitrack” in one ten-hour block in late November at Maximus Media, Fresno.
  • Sciandra Family double CD project of old-time fiddle music and popular songs of 1900 to 1935.
  • Heart of the Valley Patrick Contreras and Steve Ono September 2013 to June 2014.
